Message from the Artist: Perhaps we need to give our loved ones a mark on this current time, maybe then our tears can cease. Leave them available in a form that others can encounter through the years. Those who were once strangers can accept, feel empathy through stories or paintings. We are not all granted a long life, hopefully we live our version of fullness. Don’t wait, do your best.

I tell myself this story: there was a throb of regret after dispensing justice on my skinny behind, inflicting fear on his smallest child. But that hard-working, raising-4-kids hand managed burdens and stress. That hand held mine on hikes through trees, and later for a resolute final squeeze on the shoreline, by the ocean that swallowed my tears and deepened my fears. A living sea I eventually forgave and have been taken in by. A story that can pull out forgiveness instead of shame. If he was here, we would jest about that night, and we would share epic forest treks, beach walks, and authentic forgiveness.

Our loves’ lives cross our paths, come and go as they will, and leave indentations. There are lives that we create, as well, souls we jettison forward beyond our understanding and the fullness of our bodies, catapulting them into better, longer lifetimes. Each layer of family is stronger, bathed in more brilliant love, swirled with better intentions, while detrimental chain links are demolished, cycles broken, transgressions defeated, and souls healed. New narratives begin and further marks are made.
