Let's journey into the VAULT for the 3rd day ~ a place where the sketches, concepts and paintings abound, and range from 'yikes' to 'YES'. I'm only pulling YESSES for this vault release!

 

I like to think we are defined by our EFFORTS - not by the results of our efforts - OR by others' responses to our efforts. 

 

A glimpse from the past, a snippet from a 2007 journal entry: 

“On my way home from Sweden, alone, flight 3007 to Frankfurt from Stockholm. I may have a tinge of regret that I didn’t strive for a deep intimate moment with my grandma M while on the trip. Regrets are useless and worthless and maybe it is more that I wanted to see her feeling excited and happy and content. Her bored, tired and confused moments seem to outweigh the happy ones, in my memory. 

 

I saw mom happy when we were dancing together after the wedding ~ laughing til our cheeks hurt. That was fun. I saw grandma Neva happy and enthralled at the museums, satisfied to walk around on her own during the calm mornings at Enigheten. 

 

Now I recollect some smiles from grandma M! She was adorable at the MOMA, perched on her stool in front of a painting, listening to the guided tour on headphones ~ ankles crossed, hands and purse in lap. Focused.”

NOTE: my mom and I took my two grandmothers (both in their 80s) to Sweden for my brother's wedding. I came home 5 days earlier than they did because I couldn't stand to be away from my sons for more than 10 days.

RELEASE NUMBER 3: SPRINKLING SUNSHINE

 

Created in July 2007. We have the necessity to find that which lifts us up and brings us joy, and we have the power to spread that joy to others. To fly high and sprinkle joy and love and acceptance on others like fairy dust, how could we feel more useful? This painting was created onto smooth hard board, so the paint seemed to leap from the surface instead of sinking into canvas. I made a partner piece to Sprinkling Sunshine, as well, if you email back and ask, I will share that piece with you.
