Something that inspires me in my life is serving families in my community that are less-than-fortunate, hurting, hungry, trying... Mothers raising children on very tight budgets, yet trying to provide fun and yums and memories, while watching and stretching every dollar.

 

When my friends and I at The Giving Closet hand a child a toy, a new pair of shoes, or a backpack and school supplies… it changes something in the air. Their smiles, their jiggles of excitement, the glimmer in their eyes… (I'll admit, it's addicting!)

 

There's a shift in energy when I sharpen up my large stash of studio pencils, ones purchased for my own sons over the years, and bundle them into sets of 12 to hand to children who are feeling that eager anticipation of a new school year. (I've always had a thing for pencils, having plenty makes me feel pulled-together, for some reason)

 

Somehow all of these moments and essences feed into my paintings. Feed into the moments that I want to capture, and the places I imagine in my heart and art. Places of serenity, calm and comfort, magic, and a secure place to rest.

 

You can bet that a portion of the funds from sales in the Seed & Sky Collection will be going to The Giving Closet – in the way that feels right.
