Let's venture back into the VAULT for day 8. The vault is a place where words are tied to paint blobs and sentences are tied to lines and blocks of color, all swimming in a sea of emotion and music. We all need a place of our own to find ourselves and have the freedom to figure out life, alone, with just brushes and paints (or your chosen tools), music and time. 

 

I hope YOU have a place like this.

 

A glimpse from the past, a journal snippet from 2009: 

"I have such trouble with words, with spitting them out in the same pattern they appear in my mind ~ I feel it ~ but when I speak it, I fumble. Therefore, I write it.

 

I do not want to be someone who stands there, as my dad used to say “with my teeth in my mouth and my bare face hanging out”. I feel the need and the urge to help and be an advocate, but when I try to speak it, I fail. Therefore, I paint it.

 

I ask that over time my words find a pattern, my message evolves, my purpose unfolds and my actions become clear. Until then, I’ll paint.

 

I totally do not have the answers, but I have many questions, and that is my start."

RELEASE NUMBER 8: MORNING SON

 

Created in 2009. My eldest son was 5, my youngest 3, and every day brought moments like this. The fresh crop on this re-imagined piece from the vault seems to pull them closer together, tighter, bonded more sincerely. The sun is just coming in to warm them.
