Fresh Faces, Old Souls: A New Collection Begins ♥

Fresh Faces, Old Souls: A New Collection Begins ♥

KATIE BERGGREN

I first conceived this idea in May of 2021, though its roots go even deeper, to stories I crafted in 8th grade, in the early 90s. It's something that’s lived quietly in me: a longing to beautifully and thoughtfully represent women; the struggles, the stories, the growth, the richness... To step beyond ourselves and see another and witness the aura, the color, the magic of a woman’s journey.

Growing up, I drew countless faces of women and kids – want to see a bunch?

I tend to believe that when we are young we have found at least a portion of our destined path; tuning back into our early interests can lead us in the right direction.

This new series is a gentle departure from my recent collections of bold, saturated colors. I’m turning toward something quieter and softer this time. I want to explore the foreground and background of a woman’s presence, playing with the essence of skin and hair, soft hues of the earth and sea, wind, flowers, and the creatures around us.

I feel a calling to create companions in paint;

women who feel like old friends, whose stories can become part of our homes, our worlds.

I’ve always needed nature in my home; my favorite décor being rocks, interesting branches, houseplants and sunlight streaming onto wood floors. These paintings are a way of inviting that same grounded tranquility indoors. The color palette will be rooted in calm, with tones that breathe with us, rather than shout to us to notice them.

These women have been in the back of my mind for a long time now. Until recently they were just ghosts, a gentle idea, forms without a plan.

Perhaps the Graceful Nature Collection has given them courage to rise?

And now, in this pause, they are beginning

to speak to me again.

Would YOU like to be part of this new collection?

I'm creating a series of profile portraits that celebrate the essence, strength, and beauty of women; each paired with her own poetically imagined story and a palette inspired by nature.

If this speaks to you, I’d love to invite you to send me a photo of your own facial profile for possible inspiration within the series. I'm looking for a range of faces and energies to help shape this collection.

(More interested in submitting a mother and child photo as inspiration? Consider my Painting On Purpose Project!)

If your photo inspires a painting, you’ll receive a special collector's discount should you feel drawn to make that original piece your own.

Please know: your photo will be a point of inspiration, but the final artwork will be an imagined version woven with color, emotion, and natural elements. Each woman in this series becomes a character with her own story and subtle magic.

Thank you for considering being a part of this. It would mean so much to create this with you.

Here's a photo I snapped 4 months ago, in thinking about this collection - I'd like to use colors such as those in this Sycamore tree!

Love & Sincerely, Katie
