This is Detached...

isolated child, sad child in crib, cry it out method, crying baby, leaving a baby to cry, letting a baby cry, letting a newborn cry, should babies cry, infant crying in bed, crying in crib, abandoned child, sad child, sad baby, detached child, attachment parenting, sad cold painting, cold art, sad painting, sad child painting, motherless child painting

Painted in 2007, is DETACHED an early version of The Seeker in infant-form? Perhaps. She at least shows I have loved painting emotion since the beginning, and we already know that The Seeker silently emerged early and held on until A Silent Story.

Let me tell you where this heart-wrenching baby came from:

I was at a friend’s house one day when my boys were young, and our kids were all. Her youngest was about the same age as my youngest (13 months).

She was telling me that on a day previously, she had put her baby down for a nap and went into her office to work. Her baby was crying on the monitor, so she turned the monitor OFF and kept working.

She told me with whimsy in her voice that when she turned the monitor on 90 minutes later, her baby was STILL crying… SCREAMING. My friend thought this was funny... I felt HORRIFIED at what her child must’ve been feeling.

I went home and drew Detached, then painted it, imagining how that baby must have felt in her crib: ignored, isolated and detached, crying for closeness for over 90 minutes.

This piece really has my heart in it, and still pains me to look at it 15 years later.

This experience stuck with me for weeks, but painting the moment helped. I sent messages into the Universe that my friend's baby never have to experience that again.

SIDE NOTE:
WHY do I ALWAYS put big watermarks on my images and share them in low resolution?

Because my artwork is stolen quite often. I have found my paintings printed on soaps, shirts, diamond paintings, paint-by-number kits, necklaces, towels, cups… to name just some.

When artwork is used for commercial means without permission, artists suffer. My amazing community of collectors often notifies me when my artwork has been infringed upon, and I appreciate you all SOO much, you have no idea.

This is why I register copyright on each piece I make and watermark my art before sharing. Because in this day and age, I have to.
