I lay next to my boys at night, watching them sleep in peace & innocence ~ I stroke their sweet skin, their little bodies unencumbered by worries (and clothes). We’ve come so far. When they were 6 months old I wasn’t sure how I’d manage toddlerhood… When they were 2, I couldn’t imagine 4. When they were 5, I couldn’t fathom how I’d survive school days! But we lived through it all ~ gotten stronger & closer. I hope.
Now, after listening to them share their thoughts & watching them drift off, I wonder how I’ll handle what’s next: pre-teens and teens… adolescence. I picture myself dropping, knees & forehead heavy to the floor, full of aching for, & memories of, their young years. The times we are in right now. I’m reminded to soak them in, daily.
I know I’m not alone in my feelings & worries, my uncertainty. All of us mothers are travelling through the ages, & we have to capture them in whatever way works for us. As I lie with my big boy, noticing his long legs and short new haircut, I find myself thinking… “I’m glad I’ve got paintings”. Where I don’t have photos that show actual humans, I’ve got paintings that capture the heart of the moment. We all have our own way of capturing: be it scrapbooks, videos, instagram, sticky notes… please keep capturing. Knowing one day you’ll rest your forehead on what you have saved, feeling thankful for all you’ve survived, cherishing it all.

It’s Thursday ~ so I have a new original MINI painting to share ~ it is my joy to have a mini painting in process in the studio each week ~ a little emotion, a little gift. I release my original mini painting each week on Thursday mornings (& sometimes another mini original during the week) ~ I am also, always, creating larger original paintings to offer in the Online Studio Shop, as well as commissioned custom paintings for clients (pre-sold).
This new mini original painting is titled Adoration. Adoration: the word & feeling clung to this painting from the first sketch. So pure & simple, textured & innocent.
