A DIY Fall Mama Thing

Lately, some moments that have thrilled me have been those where I take homemade frozen cookie dobs out of the freezer and bake them up for fresh cookies ~ even at 8 in the morning before packing the lunch boxes!

Where I realize that for one full year now I have been making my own shampoo, and I love it.

Where the fresh-baked mini muffins keep flowing, because I planned ahead (thanks again to my little freezer) and the house OVERFLOWS with the decadent coconut-y smell of fresh homemade granola…

Where I peek in my cupboard and see a healthy supply of snacks stored safely in saved and reused glass jars, bulk honey…

Is this just a Fall thing? Or a mama-coming-of-age thing?

Truthfully, I don’t know. But this past weekend, I made make my own laundry detergent (thanks to my friend Sarah on Facebook). I was so totally excited. That is how I know it is the right thing at the right time for this mama. Whether I’m coming of age, or inspired by the season.

What about you? What do you make yourself that brings you joy and pride, what saves you money because you cooked it up your ‘lil ‘ol self?

I TRULY want to know!

Let us inspire each other.

Here is a link to some good information about going shampoo-free: http://www.naturemoms.com/no-shampoo-alternative.html

And here is Sarah’s recipe for homemade laundry detergent:
1 cup Arm & Hammer washing soda
1/2 cup baking soda
1 grated bar of castile soap
Mix together
Use 1 TBSP per load.

Here is the Recipe I used:
1 cup Arm & Hammer washing soda
1 cup boraxo laundry booster (20 Mule Team)
1 finely grated bar of castile soap
Mix together
Use 1-2 TBSP per load.

it smells amazing and so far it seems to clean our towels and rags much more effectively than the liquid natural soap I was buying (ECOS).

Have a great day!

Love & Sincerely, Katie
