Message from the Artist: My stone paintings so far have spelled out a story, and this piece displays a new portion of her journey. A period of time when things have fallen into place. Climbing has given way to hopping from stone to stone and moment to moment. The effort has shifted from hurling her body up and up, to maintaining a steady progression, with necessary pauses.
Sometimes we slip right off our stones, perhaps in a storm; we bang our knees but get back up and move consistently forward. Adapting to the pain, developing through transitions. Often we take others along, hand in hand, building strength together.
The grass has grown over the stones unchosen: earlier worries and decisions discarded. We let go of hurts and situations, options and trials that we knew wouldn’t stand the test of time.
At one point, after hours of diligent work on this painting, I realized that I had gotten lost in the details. I had lost the power of the piece in a myriad of colors and components. Her spirit, however, remained bright in those carefully chosen boulders, so I trusted that what she needed was a repair versus a coat of white paint to ‘undo-all’.
In a course-correct, intuition takes charge. A brush with a dark color rewrites the scene and restructures everything that has gone astray. Then, I began again by keeping the parts loved, and reworking where the mark was missed. Sounds like life, doesn’t it?
An original 10x20 inch acrylic painting on deep canvas. The edges of the canvas are 1.5 inches deep. The edges of the painting are painted dark brown and all painted surfaces are varnished with UV Protectant Varnish. The painting is wired and ready to hang, right out of the box. Signed on the front ~ titled, dated and autographed on the back.
