Message from the Artist: Sometimes it seems that life is coming at us from two (or more) different directions. We have choices to make, we feel at a crossroads and worry we won't make the right decision. This mother… she calmly sits in this moment as the world churns in waves around her. The soft surf laps toward them, getting ever closer. I can very nearly hear it when I look at this painting.
She is calm because she trusts. They'll have to rise soon as the foamy bubbles will shortly reach their toes, but even if it does? They will survive. They may not time everything precisely, they may not make every decision correctly, but they will be fine. If the lapping edges touch them, they will get up and move on. Until then, they sit enveloped in the reality of this moment; the authenticity of having life inside them and each other to hold on to. On their own parcel of warm wetting sand, with faith in their hearts and the realization that someday they will look back on this moment, remembering the goodness of it.
